Edda
Edda is a word used to describe Icelandic/Norse epic poetry.
There is some disagreement as to its actual meaning and origin. It is similar to the word for Great-grandmother and also similar to the Old Norse óðr meaning poetry and further similar to the word Oddi, which was the name of a center of learning in Iceland during the Middle Ages.
Likewise, it is similar to the Latin word edo meaning "I compose" as well as the Sanscrit Veda which means knowledge.
At any rate, the Poetic Eddas and the Prose Eddas are our main source of information about medieval Norse mythology and skaldic tradition in Iceland.
