Hecuba
Latinized version of the name Hecabe. The name means, roughly "she walks purposefully"
After the fall of Troy, Queen Hecuba, wife of King Priam of Troy went mad
And when fortune overturned the pride
of the Trojans, who dared everything, so that
both the king and his kingdom were destroyed,
Poor wretched captured Hecuba,
after she saw her Polyxena dead
and found her Polydorus on the beach,
was driven mad by sorrow
and began barking like a dog…
She was given to Odysseus as a slave but attempted suicide and was turned into a black dog by the Gods and forever after roamed at the side of Hecate as her familiar pet and companion.
