Hero -Hero is the name of a priestess of Aphrodite who loved a man named Leander. He swam a straight every night to be with her and she put a candle in the window to guide his way. One stormy night the candle blew out. Leander was lost and Hero took her life. Hero is also a main character of the play Much Ado About Nothing.

Homer -Homer is a Greek epic poet known for The Odyssey, The Iliad and The Homeric Hymns all of which are important source documents for Hellenic Paganism. The name Homer means "pledge" or "hostage".

Invidia -Invidia is the Roman equivalent of Nemesis. The name Invidia comes from the Latin invidere which means to look against, to look at in a hostile manner. It is associated with jealousy or envy and also the Evil Eye. The jealousy here is not merely a negative feeling against one who has what you have not, but a feeling that what another has is unjust or undeserved, offending one's sense of justice in the world.

Iphigeneia -Iphigeneia is the name of a young girl who was sacrificed by her father Agammemnon to appease Artemis and bring about a fair wind so the Argives could sail to the Trojan war. The name means "born into strength".

Irene -Irene is a name of Greek origin meaning "peace". The Goddess Eirene was the daughter of Themis and the personification of peace.

Iris -An Iris is a flower that grows in damp places. It is also the name of the Goddess of the Rainbow and herald of Hera. The name means "rainbow" in Greek.

Jason -Jason is a name from Greek mythology. The name means "healer".

Jennifer -Jennifer is a Cornish variant of the name Guinevere which is itself a Middle English variant of the old Welsh name Gwenhwyfar which means "white" or "smooth" "fairy woman".
Of course Gwenhwyfar / Guinevere was King Arthur's wife.

Jormungandr -Jormungandr is the name of the Midgard Serpent of Norse lore.

Lavinia -According to Roman lore, Lavinia was the wife of Aeneas who escaped the Trojan war to settle Rome. She is the mother of Rome.

Leander -The name Leander means "lion man". According to legend, Leander was a young man who loved a priestess of Aphrodite named Hero who dwelt in a tower on the other side of the Hellespont. Every night she put a candle in the window of her tower room and he swam the straight to see his lover and one night a great storm came up and her candle blew out. Leander lost his weight and drowned. Hero then threw herself into the Hellespont.

Leda -The name Leda is a girl's name of Greek origin. It means simply "woman" or "wife". It is the name given by Homer and other bards to the mother of Helen of Sparta, Clytemnestra and Castor and Pollux. She bore these children after Zeus seduced her in the shape of a swan.

Leto -Leto is a Greek name meaning "hidden one". In Greek lore, Leto is the mother of Apollo and Artemis.

Linus -The name Linus means "flax" and it is the name of three different sons of Apollo in Greek myth.

Llew -Llew Llaw Gyffes is a hero of Welsh lore, son of Arianrhod and Gwydion. According to the story his name meant "lion with a steady hand".

Loki -Loki is the name of the Norse trickster God.

Lugh -Lugh is a hero of Irish lore. The name means "lucidity". Lugh was a member of the Tuatha de Dennan and served as their king for a time. He was skilled at all crafts

Maera -Maera is the name of the nymph of the dog star Sirius the name means "sparkling".

Marin -Marin is from the latin mare meaning "the sea". Alternatively may relate to the God Mars.

Marina -Marina is a girl's name that may relate to the sea through the latin root mare or may relate to the Roman God Mars.
