About the name Aëdon
Aëdon is a girl's name of Greek origin that appears in many myths. The name means "nightingale". It is also the species name for the common house wren.
According to one story, Aëdon killed her own son Itylus by mistake. Overwhelmed with grief, she wandered the Earth lamenting, turned into a nightingale, continued lamenting in bird form.
Another Aëdon boasted that the love between she and her lover was greater than that between Hera and Zeus and Eris was called in to create strife between them. The whole family got involved and eventually were turned into various birds. Aëdon, of course, was the nightingale.
