About the name Gorgo
Gorgo was the name of a queen of Sparta who was widowed when her husband King Leonidas was killed at the Battle of Thermopylae, known also as the Battle of the 300. According to Plutarch "When asked by a woman from Attica, 'Why are you Spartan women the only ones who can rule men?', she said: 'Because we are also the only ones who give birth to men.'" She is also mentioned by Herodotus. The name possibly comes from the Greek word gorgos meaning "dreadful".
